Positively negative

 I’m Positive I’m Negative

We use expressions like “I get a good vibe from him,”; “Something feels wrong here”, or even “Who didn’t eat their Wheaties?” to explain an instinctive reaction we have to peoples energy. There is much talk in our present culture of spreading positive energy to balance all the negative in the world. Some argue how can positive thinking change the world? Well, it affects the very creative ‘stuff   that is in the air. Stuff we can’t see.

Here’s an analogy if you find this concept hard to swallow. We can’t see the wind but we can see the effect of the wind. From a gentle breeze that moves the grass to a gale to a hurricane force that can topple houses. This is an unseen force that has very tangible results. That is your attitude of positivity or negativity.  I recall a study by Masaru Emoto wherein he examined water molecules under a very high-powered microscope. They played different music in the lab-when the music was angry, or loud the cellular shape of the water molecule became jagged- when they played classical it become like a beautiful crystal, and symmetrical. Imagine the effect this has on us and our 70% water constitution!

So, the implication is that everything you’re taking in, from the negative news to a friend’s constant litany of woes is changing your very cellular make up. And remember ‘like attracts like’ so if people seem to be indifferent or cold to you are you in fact being standoffish to others. Experiment with being really positive in all your interactions.

The Philosophy Of Either/Or

Sometimes we spend a lot of energy and consequently stress out on our desired outcome of a situation. Maybe it’s a talk to the boss about a raise, or promotion; maybe it’s asking someone out on that first date. If it doesn’t go the way we want we experience an inevitable let down and maybe even depression.

Here we can take something from the Indian Philosopher Krishnamurti. When asked how he maintains equanimity on the outcome of an intention he stated he doesn’t mind which one happens. Let’s take a trivial example: Say you’re going out to see a movie but it’s sold out, well, instead of being upset now you can just try one of many other activities, stroll the city with your partner, have a good coffee and dessert in a Bistro you haven’t tried. The point is the same for a promotion or the bigger things in life, either outcome will lead you to the next place you’re supposed to be. It’s kind of like that well known saying, “When one door closes another opens.” Just be sure you see the other door, and step through it.
